About John
Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and working closely with Executive Deans, the Senior DVC, the University Registrar and Secretary and with senior colleagues across the University, John leads on all aspect of education and student experience. John holds a range of key external roles on behalf of the University. Key elements of his overall portfolio of responsibilities include:
- Formulation and delivery of institutional Education and Student Experience Strategy
- Executive Lead on UK academic partnerships
- Executive lead on Access and Participation Plan and TEF
- Executive leadership of institutional response to the skills agenda and the strategic delivery of non-standard provision including degree apprenticeships, online learning and short courses
- Executive oversight of Annual Programme Review, QA and Integrated Period Reviews
- Member of UEG Risk Review Group, IT & Digital Committee, and Capital Programme Committee
- Executive oversight of Timetabling and Future Teaching Spaces
- UoP representative for South West Institute of Technology (Director); Mountbatten Water sports Centre (Director); Devon and Torbay Education Alliance; SW Military Education Committee; UUK Student Experience, Education and Skills Network (SEESN)
- Chair of Next Steps South West (UniConnect in the South West)
- Leadership of specific projects of strategic importance to the University

John is a member of University Senate and attends Board of Governors meetings.
John joined the University in 2022 from the University of Birmingham, where he was most recently Director of Education for the College of Medical and Dental Sciences and a senior member of the Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy. John holds a chair in Biomedical Education.
